Organ Pipe Cactus

The Organ Pipe Cactus is related to the Saguaro, but because it is smaller, it is less resistant to frost damage, and cannot survive in the cooler areas to the north where the saguaro can flourish.

Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument is in southern Arizona, adjacent to the Mexican border. It is known not only for the organ pipe cactus, which cannot survive the cooler areas of the desert, but also for the displays of wildflowers in years where the winter rains provide plenty of moisture.
