Grand Canyon in Winter – Yaki Point

While most people associate Arizona and the Grand Canyon with warm to hot weather, in fact the elevation at the rim of the canyon is high enough that the climate is quite cool year round. Several feet of snow typically fall at the South Rim, and the North Rim is usually closed for snow from late October to mid May.

This picture is pretty typical of winter after a storm. There is about 18” of snow on the ground, and the temperature was about 8°F.
